Turkish Defence Expo IDEF 2023

IDEF'23, the 16th International Defence Industry Fair held under the auspices of the Presidency of the Republic of Türkiye and hosted by the Türkiye Ministry of National Defence, took place between 25 and 28 July 2023 at the TÜYAP Fair Convention and Congress Centre in Istanbul.


The star attraction without a doubt was the TAI Kaan, a stealth, twin-engine all-weather air superiority fighter in development by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) and BAE Systems. Kaan is planned to replace the F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft of the Turkish Air

The exhibition is one of the 4 largest defence industry fairs in the world.

At the fair held in 2021 in Istanbul in 163 delegations and 614 delegation members from 81 countries and 2 international organizations were hosted.




Bayraktar UAVs are a family of unmanned aerial vehicles designed and manufactured by Turkish company Baykar. The UAVs were developed for the Turkish Armed Forces. Some models are designed for surveillance and reconnaissance only, others are capable of tactical ground-strike missions.



More than 600 official delegations including Ministries of Defence and high-level military and civilian procurement officials from friendly and allied countries were invited by the Turkish Ministry of National Defence, Ministry of Interior and Defence Industry Agency.



IDEF'21 hosted 1,238 companies from 53 countries. Exhibitors reported that important commercial connections were established in meetings with local and other foreign exhibitors. The fair was visited by 68.795 professionals from 94 countries.








Roketsan, one of the major exhibitors and exporter of defence drones is a major Turkish weapons manufacturer and defence contractor based in Ankara, Turkey. It was ranked 96th in 2018 and 89th in 2019 in Defence News' most valuable defence industry companies list. In 2020, it was ranked 91st.



More than 600 official delegations including Ministries of Defence and high-level military and civilian procurement officials from friendly and allied countries were invited by the Turkish Ministry of National Defence, Ministry of Interior and Defence Industry Agency to attend IDEF 2023.



Approximately 1.300 domestic and foreign companies which are directly or indirectly operating in defence, security, marine, aviation and aerospace industries participated in IDEF.
