At the Ballito Microlight Academy, we are deeply passionate about more than just flying - we're committed to inspiring young minds and planting the seeds of aviation dreams where they might never have taken root before.
As a boutique flight school based in the beautiful coastal town of Ballito, KZN, we're privileged to train pilots in both the Weight Shift Controlled Microlight (WCM) and Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) categories. But beyond the flight deck, our mission extends to the skies of education, awareness and outreach.
With our year-round sunshine, scenic flight routes, and passionate team of aviators, Ballito offers a truly unique training ground - and we love sharing it. One of the most rewarding parts of what we do is opening our doors to school groups and offering aviation awareness talks. These sessions give learners a glimpse into the world of aviation - from pilot careers and engineering to air traffic control and beyond.
Recently, we had the honour of hosting 82 learners from Merlewood Primary School in Port Shepstone. For many of them, this was their first time leaving their hometown - and their very first encounter with aviation up close. Seeing their eyes light up as they watched a live aircraft demonstration reminded us why we do this. Even if we can't take every child flying, we hope to ignite a dream that one day might take flight.
A very special thank you must go to MISASA - the Microlight and Sport Aeroplane Association of South Africa - for their continued support, encouragement, and belief in outreach initiatives like ours. Their guidance and enthusiasm play a massive role in helping us grow aviation at grassroots level and in giving back to communities through aviation education. Their impact is far-reaching, and we're proud to have their support as we work to uplift and inspire.
Every outreach session is a chance to open a door, start a conversation, and spark a passion. We may be a small school - but we believe small efforts can have high-altitude impact.
To the teachers, parents, and community leaders who make these visits possible: thank you. And to the learners - we see your wonder, your excitement, your potential. The Sky is your Playground!
