FAKR Jack Taylor Airfield Megan Stevenson's Talk

Its January and the season for fly aways and other events have just started and most pilots were to some degree suffering from withdrawals symptoms. One of them is Karl Jensen who admittedly hasn't really stopped flying over the festive season.

Karl does not need an excuse to get ZU-VAL out of his aviation art gallery that does duty as a hangar at Fly-Inn Estates and into the air where the Pixie Plane belong.

So, when I got a WhatsApp asking if I would like to join him to fly to Jack Taylor at Krugersdorp for the Club's monthly meeting to which Megan Stevenson, aviation speaker of note and the MD of Infinite Aviation was invited too. Off course I said yes and we took off in rather murky conditions for the flight over the western suburbs of Sandton and Jhb and landed in glorious weather in Krugersdorp.

I must admit that I have not been to FAKR for a while and it was so good to meet up with old friends and to tuck in to the delicious breakfast prepared by Johan Swanepoel who runs 26 South the restaurant in the clubhouse. The breakfast was compliments of Francois Tolmay and the club members most and who were attending and it, in itself, made the journey worthwhile.

Thank you all for the hospitality!!!

Karl who had been to one of Megan's talks before was so impressed that he just had to go again. I definitely agree. Megan's talk had me and the audience spellbound!! If you do get the opportunity do go! You won't be disappointed and the lessons learned might just save your life.

Approaching Tranquility we saw Anuska the Antonov AN2 taking off after having visited the lodge with ten on board for lunch

Ray and Karl before we departed. Ray had to clear the runway from some Blesbok

Leaving Tranq's

Afterwards we took off for Tranquillity Lodge for a visit with Ray who are sadly selling this little bit of wild life heaven on the outer edges of the hustle and bustle of Pretoria.

Then onwards to Kittyhawk that just happens to be on our flight path home. We had to stop for Karl to pick up some stunning coaster featuring the sixpack of aircraft instrument made by Rob Jonkers and off course the obligatory strawberry milkshakes, the best ever.

The wind was pumping when we landed but being the lady she is VAL took it in her stride and she was soon snug under her custom covers.

What better way is there to spend a Saturday?
