SAPFA's Hans Schwebel attended the conference in his capacity as president of the General Aviation Commission. He had the opportunity to hand over the centenary yearbook of the Aero Club of SA to the executive director Captain Farre Moneer from the Saudi General Aviation Club. This book was well received.
One hundred and twenty delegates from around the world attended this conference. During the conference a new FAI president, Mr. Greg Principato a US citizen, was elected. Botswana had applied for membership and was accepted as the newest FAI member.
The Aero club of SA was unfortunately unable to send a delegate to attend this year's conference.
While there Hans attended the Sand and Sun Day and Night Airshow presented by the Saudi General Aviation Club. Held at Thumamah Airport in the Saudi the show's stunning line up of aerobatic displays and a vast lineup of aircraft captivated the estimated 100,000 visitors.
The highlight in the Saudi aviation calendar was inaugurated by Riyadh Gov. Prince Faisal bin Bandar alongside Prince Sultan bin Salman, the founder and chairman of the Saudi Aviation Club.
