On Saturday morning I met Capt. Karl Jensen at his special hangar at Fly Inn Estates from a flight to Tedderfield Airpark for a 'on the house' breakfast and chatter with friends. This, except for a fly in to Welkom on the 16 December where the SA National gliding championships is set to take place from the 16th to 22nd December, is the last fly in of the year.
Tedderfield will open the 2024 season with EAA Chapter's monthly fly in to the superbly maintained air park which has recently launched a further number of stands for those that are looking for a superb investment.
When we got there was sixteen aircraft parked next to the runway and the clubhouse was humming with conversation as visitors tucked in to the most delicious boerie roll and coffee.
More arrived as the morning progressed. Twenty, according to my count, when we left had visited.
From Tedders we flew to Eagles Creek with the J'burg skyline on our right. Filling up we when visited the clubhouse now run by Johan and Marinda previously from Brits.
Meeting with some friends we spend a delightful hour chatting before departing for Fly In and it is with a sad heart that I bid ZU-VAL and Karl goodbye until next year.
Below is a short video report showing most of the visitors and our flight
