Henley Air Open Day 30 October 2021

By Willie Bodenstein

Henley Air, a dedicated helicopter charter and flight training school, started out in 1995 as a dream and has today grown into a major operation. The majority of the company's fleet is owned and operated from their three hangars covering 7323 m2, situated at Rand Airport, Germiston.

For the last 22 years, the family owned and managed helicopter charter company has provided safe and reliable helicopter-related services to the Southern African market.

In May of this year, the company, a long-standing Bell customer client, launched Rocket, its very own Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) in South Africa, utilizing six Bell products. Henley has already demonstrated and executed lifesaving missions such as transportation prior to surgery or organ transplant with the support and reliability of its Bell 222 UT, which provides internal space and long-range capability, which is in excess of 320 nautical miles.

As a uniquely non-aligned HEMS provider, Henley Air offers its helicopter ambulance service to key hospitals in the country and has been involved in numerous lifesaving missions.

Among the services that Henley offers are airport transfers, scenic flights, photographic flights, helicopter "flipping" for events, firefighting services and helicopter flight training from Private Pilot's License (PPL) through to Commercial Pilot's License.

Henley is able to assist with PL Night Rating, Instrument Rating (IR) Sling & Winch Rating, Multi-crew Co-operation, (MCC), Night Vision Imaging Systems (NVIS) and single/multi-engine type ratings.

The company has two in-house Designated Flight Examiners (DFE) able to perform all license skills tests and revalidations. Other courses on offer include Human Factors Training: Cockpit Resource Management (CRM) & Dangerous Goods (DG), Human Factors, Integrated safety, Quality Assurance Auditor and Safety Management Systems Qualifications.

The open day held to introduce the various services on offer was well attended. Invited were a large number of learners who were introduced in the company's multi-disciplinary approach to flying.
