BOMBARDIER SELLS TWO Q400 NEXTGEN AIRLINERS TO OPERATOR IN THE MIDDLE EAST AND AFRICA REGION

Bombardier Aerospace announced that a customer in the Middle East and Africa region, who has requested to remain unidentified at this time, placed a firm order for two Q400 NextGen turboprop airliners.

Based on the list price of the Q400 NextGen airliner, the order is valued at approximately $62 million US.

"We are delighted that operators in the Middle East and Africa region are showing such strong confidence in the Q400 NextGen aircraft as they continue to recognize the advantages offered by its operational flexibility," said Ray Jones, Senior Vice President, Sales, Marketing and Asset Management, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft. "That flexibility has increased even further with the now available extra capacity seating configuration, which offers up to 86 seats and boasts up to a 17 per cent seat-cost advantage for operators compared to its closest turboprop competitor."

The fleet of Bombardier commercial aircraft in the Middle East and Africa is steadily growing with more than 200 Q-Series turboprops, CRJ regional jets and CSeries airliners now in service with, or on firm order from, approximately 50 customers and operators in the region. Bombardier's Commercial Aircraft Market Forecast for the period 2013-2032, covering aircraft from 20 to 149 seats, predicts deliveries of 480 units to the Middle East and 700 to Africa over the forecast period.

Operating from the company's regional office located in the United Arab Emirates, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft's sales and marketing team is well positioned to provide industry-leading solutions to its current and prospective customers. The company's customer support network for commercial aircraft in the Middle East and Africa includes a parts depot in Dubai; a Regional Support Office (RSO) and parts depot, co-located in Johannesburg, South Africa; as well as Authorized Service Facilities in South Africa and Ethiopia.

About Q400 NextGen aircraft

Optimized for short-haul operations and capable of seating up to 86 passengers, the Q400 NextGen aircraft is a large, fast, quiet and fuel-efficient turboprop. It provides the perfect balance of passenger comfort and operating economics with a reduced environmental footprint.

The Q400 NextGen aircraft is the fastest new-technology turboprop, providing both jet speed and turboprop fuel efficiency. The aircraft's economics and operational flexibility allow airlines to profitably deploy it in a variety of ways to serve typical short-haul turboprop routes, as well as medium-haul jet markets.

Including the order announced today, Bombardier has recorded firm orders for a total of 498 Q400 and Q400 NextGen aircraft. Worldwide, Q400 and Q400 NextGen aircraft have transported more than 295 million passengers and have logged over 4.7 million flight hours and more than 5 million take-offs and landings. The Q400 and Q400 NextGen aircraft program includes over 50 customers and operators in approximately 40 countries on five continents.

EMBRAER PROJECTS 530 NEW DELIVERIES OF 70 TO 130-SEAT JETS IN AFRICA AND THE MIDDLE EAST OVER THE NEXT 20 YEARS

Embraer Commercial Aviation forecasts that airlines in Africa and the Middle East will take delivery of 530 new jets in the 70 to 130-seat segment over the next 20 years (valued at USD 25 billion at list prices), representing 8% of the worldwide demand for the segment in the period. It is estimated that 65% of the total new deliveries will be added to support market demand growth while 35% will replace ageing retiring aircraft.

Forecasts indicate that 17 of the world's top 30 fastest growing countries in 2014 will be in the region. Air transport in Africa and the Middle East will steadily grow 5.3% and 7.1% per annum over the next 20 years, respectively - above the world average of 4.8% -, more than tripling the air traffic to, from, and within the region.

The E-Jets family has logged nearly 1,500 orders and over 1,000 deliveries to date (Photo Embraer)

"The 70 to 130-seat jets will play a key role to support the intra-regional development in Africa and the Middle East, not only for its ability to explore new markets, but also because of the possibility to improve load factors with greater flexibility," said Paulo Cesar Silva, President & CEO, Embraer Commercial Aviation. "E-Jets are the most efficient, reliable and comfortable aircraft in this category and are perfectly suited for the airlines needs in the region by providing the benefit of significantly lower trip costs."

Currently, 60% of the larger single aisle jet flight departures among African and Middle Eastern destinations have up to 110 passengers on-board on average, resulting in low load factors. The region is mostly composed by low- and mid-density markets. Some 88% of all markets have demand densities of up to 300 passengers daily each way, and approximately 50% of them are not served nonstop. Embraer E-Jets provide the capability to develop a better traffic feed system and greater network connectivity, as well as improving the quality of services on existing markets where there is not enough demand to support larger single aisle aircraft operations.

The E-Jets family has logged nearly 1,500 orders and over 1,000 deliveries to date. The aircraft are in service with some 65 customers from 45 countries. In Africa and the Middle East, Embraer has more than 75% market share among aircraft in its segment. Nearly 70 E-Jets are currently in service with 7 operators from 6 countries in the region.

EAA HOMEBUILT MOVEMENT MARKS THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE RLU-1 BREEZY

One of the most universally recognized aircraft to emerge from the EAA homebuilt movement marks its 50th anniversary this year - the RLU-1 Breezy - and EAA is inviting Breezy owners and operators to bring their aircraft to AirVenture Oshkosh 2014 where a number of special activities are being planned.

The Breezy was designed and constructed in 1964 by EAA members Charley Roloff, Bob Liposky, and Carl Unger. It featured a pair of Piper PA-12 wings and a factory-new Continental C-90-8 engine in pusher configuration and seating for two side-by-side passengers aboard the welded 4130 tubing structure. Registered as N59Y, the first Breezy made its initial EAA fly-in appearance the following year at the annual convention in at Rockford, Illinois, and a tradition was born.

Untold thousands of people have experienced the unique thrill of flight in the open-air airplane - including an FAA administrator, Sen. Barry Goldwater, actor Cliff Robertson, the entire Concorde and Apollo crew to name a few. N59Y, along with a Carl Unger mannequin, is now proudly displayed in the Homebuilt area of the EAA AirVenture Museum.

EAA Founder Paul Poberezny called the Breezy one of the most popular airplanes to ever appear at the fly-in, and credited Carl for getting many people excited about aviation. Over the years, thousands of people have received free Breezy rides from the red-vested Unger. Thousands of plan sets have been sold. Carl Unger, EAA 2515, passed away in September 2013, and his son, Rob, EAA 585561, has continued to make the plans available. Today around 1,000 Breezys in various configurations are flying.

F-35 FLEET SURPASSES 15,000 FLYING HOURS

The Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II fleet recently surpassed 15,000 flight hours, marking a major milestone for the program.

"Flying 15,000 hours itself demonstrates that the program is maturing, but what I think is even more impressive is the fact that operational F-35s accounted for more than half of those flight hours," said J.D. McFarlan, Lockheed Martin's vice president for F-35 Test & Verification. "While the fleet continues to train, we are actively flight testing the software and mission systems that will enable the Marine Corps to declare Initial Operational Capability (IOC) next year as planned."

Recently sixty F-35 sorties was flown in one day (Photo Lockheed Martin)

As of April 7, operational F-35s had flown 8,050 hours while System Development and Demonstration aircraft had accumulated 7,123 flight hours. In 2014, F-35A test aircraft have flown 328 hours; F-35B test aircraft have accumulated 191 hours; and F-35C test aircraft have flown 91 hours. In comparison, operational F-35As have flown 963 hours, while their F-35B and F-35C counterparts have accumulated 1,012 and 98 hours respectively for the year.

"Following successful AIM-120 AMRAAM Weapons Delivery Accuracy (WDA) tests in February and March, we're looking forward to executing additional WDAs in the 2nd quarter," said McFarlan. "In another clear sign of program maturation, reliability metrics are trending upward as the operations tempo picks up - recently 60 F-35 sorties was flown in one day."

The U.S. Marine Corps plans to declare IOC in 2015, while the U.S. Air Force and Navy intend to declare IOC in 2016 and 2018, respectively.

The F-35 Lightning II, a 5th generation fighter, combines advanced low observable stealth technology with fighter speed and agility, fully fused sensor information, network-enabled operations and advanced sustainment. Three distinct variants of the F-35 will replace the A-10 and F-16 for the U.S. Air Force, the F/A-18 for the U.S. Navy, the F/A-18 and AV-8B Harrier for the U.S. Marine Corps, and a variety of fighters for at least 10 other countries.

Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin is a global security and aerospace company that employs approximately 115,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The Corporation's net sales for 2013 were $45.4 billion.

TURKISH FLAG-CARRIER HAS UNFILLED ORDERS FOR NEARLY 100 BOEING AIRPLANES, INCLUDING 737 MAX

Boeing and Turkish Airlines celebrated the Turkish flag-carrier's 75th direct delivery of a Next-Generation 737 airplane. The 737-800 arrived at Turkish Airlines' base at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport on Saturday and is the latest addition to the Southern European carrier's growing fleet of more than 100 Boeing airplanes.

"As one of the world's fastest growing airlines we are delighted to be taking this meaningful delivery from Boeing. Turkish Airlines, which has reinforced its position and energy with significant investments and growth figures, continues its expansion," said Dr. Ahmet Bolat, Turkish Airlines' chief investment and technology officer. "The 75th direct delivery of a Next-Generation 737 airplane is proving one more time the success of our strong collaboration with our permanent partner, Boeing."

The Next-Generation 737-800 forms the largest component of Turkish Airlines' single-aisle fleet, which is also complemented by Next-Generation 737-700s and 737-900ERs (Extended Range). The 737-800 is the best-selling version of the highly successful Next-Generation 737 family and currently the most technologically advanced airplane in the single-aisle market. This latest delivery comes just weeks after Boeing celebrated the 8,000th 737 delivery.

"Turkish Airlines' short-haul fleet is built upon the impressive economics, reliability and comfort of the Next-Generation 737 family," said Todd Nelp, vice president of European Sales, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "This delivery marks a significant milestone in the strong relationship between our two companies that spans half a century. We look forward to marking the next 75 737 deliveries with Turkish Airlines, which will include our latest and most advanced single-aisle offering, the 737 MAX."

Turkish Airlines currently serves 247 cities in 106 countries around the world

Turkish Airlines' latest 737-800 also features some of the first galleys manufactured by Turkish Cabin Interiors (TCI). TCI is the first Turkish aerospace company to design, manufacture and certify products for the commercial aviation market, paving the way for the ongoing development of aerospace capabilities in Turkey.

"In cooperation with Boeing we have developed many innovative projects in varied fields of the commercial aviation sector - the most recent being the development of TCI for cabin interior design," said Dr. Bolat. "We worked meticulously in every process of this huge project by taking the valuable support of Boeing. We hope to continue making such breakthroughs together with our valued partner."

Last year, Turkish Airlines reaffirmed its commitment to the 737 family by ordering 40 737 MAX 8s, 10 737 MAX 9s and 20 Next-Generation 737-800s, valued at $6.9 billion at list prices. The order was the largest Boeing order in Turkish Airlines' history.

Turkish Airlines currently serves 247 cities in 106 countries around the world. Currently operating more than 100 Boeing airplanes, including Next-Generation 737s and 777-300ERs (Extended Range), Turkish Airlines has nearly 100 airplanes on order from Boeing.
