1 June: Baragwanath Airfield celebrates its 95th anniversary. The original airfield was created in 1919, with the Johannesburg Light Plane Club being formed in 1926. The club is still in operation today at the 'new' Baragwanath south of Lenasia and we are planning a good old fashioned fly-in to celebrate South Africa's aviation heritage and its future with a wide variety of aircraft present at the airfield on the day (old rubbing shoulders with new) and some great entertainment in the form of live music, vintage cars and motorcycles and period dress competition.

Bombardier Aerospace announced today that a customer from Latin America, who has requested to remain unidentified, has signed a firm purchase agreement for one CRJ700 NextGen aircraft for use in special mission applications. Based on aircraft list price, the contract including ancillary services and modification work on the aircraft is valued at approximately $67 million US. Details of the services and modification work will also not be disclosed at this time.

"This latest order is yet another affirmation of the credentials of the NextGen aircraft as a platform of choice for special mission applications," said Michel Bourgeois, President, Specialized and Amphibious Aircraft & Military Aviation Training, Bombardier Aerospace. "Whether it be for Head of State transportation, Medevac or other missions, the CRJ series aircraft are a great choice for governments looking for flexible configuration options, low operating costs and the established network of customer support personnel and service facilities, synonymous with the Bombardier name," he continued.

Worldwide, CRJ series aircraft are in service with more than 60 airlines and more than 30 customers operate corporate variants of the aircraft. The aircraft are operating in over 50 countries on six continents, and on average, a CRJ aircraft takes off every 10 seconds somewhere in the world.
CRJ series aircraft have transported more than 1.4 billion passengers and have logged more than 38 million flight hours and over 32 million take-offs and landings.

Original aircraft, replicas, reproductions all welcome to participate
A call is going out to all World War I-era aircraft, aircraft replicas, and reproductions to join in commemorating the centennial of World War I aviation technology at the annual EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2014, July 28-August 3 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
WWI airplane owners and operators are encouraged to join other aircraft from private collections for activities throughout the week at Oshkosh. The aircraft will be showcased in various areas throughout the grounds, as AirVenture attendees discover more about the technology of military flight just a decade after the Wright brothers' first powered flight at Kitty Hawk.
"The World War I period was the first significant era of aviation where flight innovation advanced at a frenzied pace," said Bill Fischer, executive director of EAA Warbirds of America, which is helping to organize the centennial commemoration. "It also marked the first time military strategy included aerial tactics and how to defense them. It is a fascinating period of flight that has been maintained by dedicated aviators around the world and will be fully explored at Oshkosh this year."
Owners and operators of World War I-era aircraft, replicas and reproductions are encouraged to pre-register their aircraft by contacting Fischer at the Warbirds of America office at 920-426-4874 or via e-mail. Pre-registration will assist with the additional logistics needed to welcome and display these aircraft.

For the Wednesday Vietnam tribute, Warbirds of America is asking all Vietnam-era aircraft owners who plan to participate to send an e-mail with your name, Warbird type, and contact information (e-mail address and phone numbers). In addition, owners planning a Sunday departure during the first part of the air show are also asked to e-mail Warbirds of America with your name, type of Warbird, and contact information.

Embraer Executive Jets has delivered the 300th Phenom 100, a clean-sheet-design jet announced in 2005. The first aircraft was delivered in December 2008, and the current fleet is operating in over 25 countries.
"We are thrilled to have reached this milestone, after just five years into the Phenom 100's operation," said Marco Túlio Pellegrini, President and CEO, Embraer Executive Jets. "We are very grateful to our Phenom 100 customers, with whom we share the celebration of this achievement."
The 300th Phenom 100 was delivered to Laticínios Bela Vista, an agribusiness company based in Bela Vista de Goiás, in Central Brazil, renowned for its Piracanjuba brand of dairy products. This is the second Phenom 100 for Laticínios Bela Vista, whose primary use of the aircraft is to shuttle corporate officers and management among the company's industrial facilities, and to visit customers in major cities across Brazil.

About The Phenom 100E
The Phenom 100E is the most spacious entry-level jet with a cabin that delivers ample space, abundant natural light from large windows, a private aft lavatory, and amenities such as the inflight entertainment. The aircraft is also the fastest in its class, with an operating cost comparable to that of leading turbo-prop aircraft, and features typically seen in larger aircraft, such as an integrated air stair, a private rear lavatory, and the largest baggage compartment in its class. The Phenom 100E also features multi-function spoilers, eleven new interior collections, standard veneer and new interior options such as the refreshment centre, lavatory stowage, and premium seats.

$6.5 billion order represents shift to Boeing fleet
"Our narrow body fleet renewal program with the 737 MAX is expected to yield significant cost savings and is a key element of our ongoing cost transformation program ," said Calin Rovinescu, President and CEO of Air Canada. "Projected fuel and maintenance cost improvements of more than 20 percent per seat will generate an estimated CASM reduction of approximately 10 percent compared to our existing narrow body fleet. In addition, the 737 MAX offers improvements to the environment, making this the best choice for Air Canada."

The 737 MAX improves fuel efficiency and reduces carbon emissions by 14 percent, while reducing the operational noise footprint by 40 percent, compared to today's aircraft.
"We're honoured Air Canada selected Boeing for their single-aisle fleet renewal," said Brad McMullen, vice president of North America Sales, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. "The 737 MAX will deliver big fuel savings to the airline while providing Air Canada's customers with best in class passenger amenities."
The 737 MAX incorporates the latest technology LEAP-1B engines from CFM International with other advancements including Advanced Technology winglets, large flight deck displays and the Boeing Sky Interior to deliver the highest efficiency, reliability and passenger comfort in the single-aisle market.
The 737 MAX has accumulated more than 1,900 orders to date from 37 customers worldwide.
Development of the 737 MAX is on schedule with firm configuration of the airplane completed in July 2013. First flight is scheduled in 2016 with deliveries to customers beginning in third quarter of 2017.
