Groblersdal Fly-In June 2012

By Johan Barnard

On the 9th of June the CVO School in Marble Hall hosted a Fly Inn, biker drive in and a walking event at Groblersdal airfield.

The locals made sure that all in attendance were very well fed. Breakfast consisted of eggs, wors, pap & sous, toast. Pancakes, boerewors rolls and much more food was also available later in the day.

Due to the cold front that made its appearance this weekend, only 10 planes made it to Groblersdal, we received calls from various pilots said that they could not get over the Lydenburg mountain due to cloud and fog, others from Polokwane (Pietersburg) Mokopane (Potgietersus) had to turn back to due strong head winds. A few planes did manage to eventually fly in. Louis Fourie managed to bring his Thorp T18 Tiger (1 of 2 in SA), Hans de Beer from Wonderboom in his Kitfox, Henri Westerman brought his beautiful, fast and sleek Glassair 3 from Witbank, a Mooney and a few microlights also made it.

Groblersdal Flying Club is busy arranging an EAA fly-In later in the year and we hope to see you all then.
