SAFTA Hosts Wings & Solo Function in March 2012

By Candice OConnor

The South African Flight Training Academy hosted their Wings and Solo Function in March and had a total of 30 students who graduated during this ceremony. SAFTA expect a larger number for the November 2012 Wings and Solo function based on the academy's current growth rate.

Special Guest speaker, Karl Jenson, a retired SAA captain, gave the students some valuable information on building a safe and successful career in aviation. Good Year Aviation and Heidelberg Aviation Association also joined in to show support to the upcoming future pilots of Africa.

Orwell Akaulubelwu from Zambia was awarded “Best Student” not only for his performance and excellent marks, but also for his commitment and enthusiasm.

South African Flight Training Academy opened its doors in Heidelberg during 2007 and train professional pilots from all over the world. They are not only an ab-initio training academy, but also offer flight and ground recurrency courses. SAFTA offer students a 10-12 month professional pilot course, starting with the private pilot's license up to the commercial pilot's license. Accommodation facilities are also available.
