Old Birds At Baragwanath - 19 February 2012

By Juri Keyter

With the weather forecast of a 47% chance of rain I did not expect to see much at the “Old Birds at Baragwanath” on Sunday the 19th of February 2012 but by 11:00 the skies started to clear and I decided to take my chances and go. The turnout was not as good as we hoped for but there were enough to turn the day in another enjoyable event that Baragwanath is known for.

The kids of the St Stithians College came out for the day to wash aircraft in return for a flight and Courtney Watson gave them a brief introduction on aircraft technical, principals of flight and of course a ride in his beautiful Tiger. Tracy Rob and Peter Lastrucci were also amongst those who entertained our future pilots in the air.

And then the heavens opened. A significant storm and serious downfall delayed the event for a little more than an hour and some fought the elements when wind started to swing aircraft around. Who knew? A Cessna 150 can float!!!

Some skydiving also thrilled everyone on the day from various types of aircraft.
